The Japanese word ‘reiki’ can be translated as ‘universal life energy’ and the Usui System is a way of working with reiki for healing of self and others. The word healing is used in the sense of regaining harmony and wholeness. Usui Shiki Ryoho addresses the whole person on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level. Using light touch Reiki practitioners facilitate healing in themselves and others by transferring energy.
Reiki classes at Breath Galveston are taught by Erin Arnett. Erin Arnett is a Reiki Master that has been continuously practicing Reiki on herself and others daily for twenty three years. She began her training with John Harvey Gray- one of the original Reiki Masters in the United States. Her classes are taught in a traditional two day format that covers the history of reiki, chakra information, self care, how to feel energy, a ninety minute protocol, four attunements and includes lots of hands on time to help you feel ready to practice Reiki in your own life.
Each level is taught as a traditional two day class. On the first day of class we begin with introductions. After introductions we cover the basic history of Reiki, what is Reiki and an introduction to chakras. You will then receive your first and second attunements to Reiki energy which allows you to send Reiki to others. We will end the day with practice on each other, feedback from each other and plenty of support from me. The second day we will learn a basic 90 minute session and practice. We will follow this with our third and fourth attunements. After that we will practice again and learn specific hand patterns for chakras and specific ailments. You will also learn a self care session as well as how to take care of your energy and the energy of your space. During your hands on time you will receive feedback from myself and other students, learn to feel intuitively and gain confidence in giving Reiki to yourself, friends and family.
To make sure that everyone gets plenty of hands on time and feedback from me the classes are limited to no more than six to eight people.
Anyone can and should learn Reiki! You do not have to have experience in healing or energy work to practice Reiki. The beginning level covers how to feel and experience energy and your abilities will grow with time. I do recommend that you have previously experienced a Reiki session, preferably with me so that you can make sure that we are a good fit.
* please note that Reiki is not a substitution for physical or mental health care and is meant to be used in conjunction with your current medical care.
To prepare for your first Reiki class you should have received at least one Reiki session from me. To help you prepare for your attunement, avoid the following three days prior to your training.
Try doing the following activities to improve your experience the day of your training. Begin three to five days prior.
Your attunement is the beginning of a 21-day spiritual cleanse. During this time, you may have emotional releases from laughter and crying to feelings of anger and frustration. The emotions you may experience will vary depending on what you need to release. The effects may also be more subtle. Know that no matter what you experience, it is all part of the process of self healing.
Be gentle with yourself and do activities that recharge your energy and nourish your body. For instance, take hot baths with essential oils, get a massage or reflexology treatment, pamper yourself with a mud wrap or spend the day at the beach or park. This is a time to reflect and surrender. Embrace the process.Eliminate or greatly reduce your intake of meat and dairy.
